This guide explains how GTE Engineering separates vehicle diagnosis from component rebuilding on automated manual transmissions. It supports owners and installers evaluating Ferrari F1, Maserati Cambiocorsa/DuoSelect, Lamborghini E-Gear, Aston Martin ASM/Sportshift, Audi R tronic and Alfa Romeo Selespeed applications.
Start with the correct transmission type
These system names describe electronically operated manual gearboxes on applicable vehicles. Do not assume every model from a marque uses the same transmission. Later DCT, torque-converter and other automatic systems require different parts, fluids and procedures. Maserati Cambiocorsa and DuoSelect are the relevant Maserati names; E-Gear is Lamborghini terminology.
A practical diagnostic sequence
- Identify the vehicle and unit. Record VIN, gearbox type, assembly reference and any conversion or engine modification.
- Preserve diagnostic evidence. Record faults and operating conditions before erasing codes or resetting learned values.
- Check the vehicle supply. Inspect battery condition, grounds, connectors, fuses, relays and harness condition using the correct service information.
- Assess hydraulics. Evaluate leaks, correct fluid, pressure behavior, pump operation and accumulator condition against the applicable procedure.
- Separate clutch and gear-selection faults. Assess wear, release travel, feedback and mechanical selection rather than treating every warning as an actuator failure.
- Choose the repair scope. Request inspection or rebuilding of the identified assembly and authorize additional work through the estimate.
Why symptoms overlap
A clutch that does not release properly can prevent gear engagement. A hydraulic supply fault can affect more than one actuator function. Wiring or sensor feedback can make a mechanically sound assembly appear faulty to the control unit. Temperature-dependent symptoms should be documented because a cold inspection may not reproduce them.
What rebuilding establishes
The removed component can be inspected and repaired within the agreed scope. GTE may identify internal wear or damage requiring additional parts. Component rebuilding does not establish the health of the complete vehicle, its wiring, clutch, cooler circuits or installation. The installing workshop remains responsible for finishing diagnosis and commissioning the vehicle.
Before resetting adaptations
Use the correct diagnostic equipment and current vehicle-specific instructions. Do not use a clutch reset as a substitute for mechanical repair or assume the same PIS, bleed or learning sequence applies to every model. Record baseline information and confirm the procedure for the fitted clutch and control unit.
BMW SMG requests
GTE also has separate catalog listings for BMW E46 M3 SMG II and M5/M6 SMG III hydraulic rebuilding. Identify the exact system and assembly before ordering; the names do not establish interchangeability with Ferrari, Lamborghini or other automated manuals. The same distinction between removed-unit work and vehicle diagnosis applies.
Common questions
Will sending fault codes guarantee a diagnosis?
No. Codes and measured results help define an inspection request, but the complete diagnosis depends on the vehicle and received component.
Can I order every component under one generic system name?
No. Use the exact unit, product listing and written repair scope. The glossary explains abbreviations; it is not an interchangeability catalog.
